Mensenrechtendag: Amman
1. A national campaign on VAW launched by the Jordanian National Commission for Women (leading semi-governmental organization on women issues). The event was launched on 24 November 2013. Mr. Paul van den IJssel, Ambassador contributed to the organized press conference (available on embassy website). Other activities are planned on 10 December 2013.
2. Support to ARIJ 6th Annual Conference, an annual conference organized by the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism. Venue is planned from 6-8 December.
3. Support to Karama’s HR Film Festival, organized by Ma3mal612 Think Factory. The festival will screen of the Dutch movie; Peace VS. Justice on 9 December 2013. This film takes a look at Joseph Kony and the LRA, and the various (opposing) points of view with regard to justice from locals, judicial authorities, and the international community. This critical documentary contrasts the efforts of international organisations with how Ugandans themselves are coming to terms with this bloody era. 4. National conference organized by the Arab Women Organization, within a running project titled ‘Towards Social and Economic Reform and Gender Equality’. The venue is expected to attract 80 grassroots NGOs from all over Jordan to evaluate women state of affairs and devise a plan for 2014.
