Like previous speakers, I would like to thank President Mubarak for convening this conference.
This conference clearly demonstrates international support for Egypt’s pivotal role both in establishing lasting cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, as well as in Palestinian reconciliation on the basis of Quartet criteria. Both tracks are crucial to creating an environment in which Gaza can be rebuilt and the broader peace process can resume.
Therefore, it is essential that all of our efforts to help Gaza should be conducive to the resumption of direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, on the basis of the Roadmap, the Annapolis process and the Arab Peace Initiative.
