Castle or house of cards? - Strengthening the structural safety chain

In recent years there has been a great deal of publicity about collapses and near-collapses of buildings in the Netherlands. This motivated the Inspectorate for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment to bring together as much knowledge as possible about the problems in this area and discuss them with the building industry. With this in mind, the Inspectorate for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment published an essay entitled ?Kasteel of Kaartenhuis?? [Castle or house of cards?] in the autumn of 2007. This ?Discussion paper on structural safety, or lack of?, contains a summary of all the information known at the time about the main causes of the failures in the structural safety chain.
