Coordination of Ramp Metering Control in Motorway Networks
In chapter 2, an overview is given on the state of the art in ramp metering control. Based on the increased insights into the problem, the problem is redefined at the end of this chapter.
In chapter 3, the methodology to assess the HERO algorithm is
described. In this section, the research methods, the simulation model and the control tools are introduced. In chapter 4, a detailed case study on the Amsterdam network is addressed.
The modelling and the general calibration based on empirical data of the simulation model are showed in chapter 5. Chapter 6 and chapter 7 describe the effects of the HERO algorithm
and the improvement of this algorithm respectively. Chapter 8 summarizes the conclusions and recommends some points
for further research and improvement.
