The clearer picture

Following various reports that waste electrical and electronic equipment was being exported illegally and were causing environmental problems in non-OECD countries, the Inspectorate for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment launched an investigation in 2004. The investigation revealed that offences were frequently being committed in the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) chain. As a result of these findings, the Inspectorate for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment made this waste stream a priority for 2005 and 2006. The activities undertaken in 2006 and the development of the level of compliance since 2004 are described in this report.
