Generator of Rainfall And Discharge Extremes (GRADE) for the Rhine and Meuse basins
The 1993 and 1995 Rhine and Meuse floods were associated with the largest 10-day precipitation amounts in the records of the past decades. Even more extreme precipitation amounts can be expected over longer periods. This fact motivated RIZA and KNMI to develop GRADE. Precipitation and discharge records covering thousands of years have been generated both for the Rhine an the Meuse rivers. This report summarises how this was achieved. Potential applications of GRADE such as the determination of design discharges are also discussed.
