Sjors Scheres (Cambridge University) has received the KNCV Gold Medal at NWO's CHAINS 2015 chemistry conference. The Gold Medal was handed out to Sjors Scheres by KNCV chairman Kees de Gooijer. After the award ceremony Sjors Scheres performed the Gold Medal lecture on `How cryo-EM is
revolutionizing structural biology'.

During his career Scheres delivered a major contribution to electronmicroscopy and structural chemistry. The software he developed enabled the gathering of information of complex (bio) molecules at the subatomic level, while not being crystallised. In 2014 Nature mentioned him as one of 10
high potential scientists.
The KNCV Gold Medal is awarded annually to researchers who have distinguished themselves in one field of the chemical sciences. As of 1963 Dutch Chemical talent is recognised and honored with the KNCV Gold Medal.
