Op 25 februari 2015 organiseert het Department of Knowledge Engineering een Experience Day (verdiepingsdag). Tijdens deze dag krijg je uitgebreid de mogelijkheid om inhoudelijk kennis te maken met de studie. Daarnaast is er de mogelijkheid om een extra dag in Maastricht te overnachten en kennis te maken met de universiteit en de stad. Het programma ziet er als volgt uit:

11.45- 12.45 Complex numbers: the pink elephant of high school mathematics by dr. Pietro Bonizzi

What number, when multiplied by itself, gives a negative answer? You've probably seen equations, such as x2 + 1 = 0 that, according to your mathematics teacher "don't have any solutions". What they forgot to tell you is that this is not true. The equation above does have two solutions. They are both complex numbers. We will tell you about complex numbers and show examples of how they are very useful to solve problems in knowledge engineering.
