International Year of Light

The year 2015 has been named as International Year of Light (IYL2015) by the United Nations. As researchers of light, the AMOLF Center for Nanophotonics is proud to contribute to make this a bright and colorful year.
A week before the official international opening in Paris, the Dutch activities of the International Year of Light (IYL2015) are `kicked off' on Thursday, January 15^th with an exciting afternoon in Amsterdam at Science Center NEMO. The organizing committee (headed by Kobus Kuipers, group
leader at FOM Insitute AMOLF) has put together an interesting program with a mixture of art, science and culture.

Many activities are planned in the Netherlands for IYL2015.NL to showcase light and the role it plays in our lives. Through SummerLabb the IYL2015.NL will show, at various festivals in the Netherlands, the large role that light can play in a sustainable society. Contributions from ECN and
Philips show smart light solutions that improve lives around the globe. The first IYL2015.NL activity at SummerLabb takes place this week in Groningen at the Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival.

These activities are funded by the FOM Foundation, Science Center NEMO and Zumtobel.
