Bekijk het museum eens achter de schermen!
Backstage rondleidingen tijdens Wisseling III

Van 15 tot en met 24 februari wisselt het Van Abbemuseum; de kunstwerken van Play Van Abbe Deel 3 worden weggehaald en daarvoor in de plaats komt collectiewerk en nieuw werk dat te zien is in het vierde en laatste deel van Play Van Abbe. Tijdens deze periode, de Wisseling, kunnen bezoekers zien wat er allemaal komt kijken bij het maken van een tentoonstelling. In zes verschillende rondleidingen achter de schermen delen medewerkers van het Van Abbemuseum hun kennis en professionele geheimen. Zo krijgen bezoekers een goed beeld van de werkzaamheden in een museum die normaal gesproken verborgen blijven. Meer informatie over de rondleidingen is te vinden op www.vanabbemuseum.nl; hier kunnen bezoekers zich ook aanmelden. Naast deze rondleidingen nodigt het museum bezoekers uit de af- en opbouw van de tentoonstellingen van dichtbij meemaken. Tentoonstellingsinrichting

Bekijk de werkplaatsen van het museum en kom meer te weten over het inrichten en opbouwen in de zalen. Rondleiding door Theo Wajon, Teamhoofd Technische Dienst.

Het publiek en haar museum

Hoe maak je wereldkundig wat je doet en wat het museum kan betekenen voor de bezoekers? En welke ervaringen geef je de gasten mee tijdens een bezoek? Rondleiding door Ilse Cornelis (Communicatie en Pers) en Loes Janssen (Publieksbemiddeling).

Kom meer te weten over de bijzondere architectuur van het gehele gebouw en zijn gebruiksmogelijkheden. Ontdek de `verborgen' museumgangen. Wie mag waar komen? Hoe wordt het gebouw optimaal benut? Welke technische vraagstukken komen daar bij kijken? Hoe regel je zo gladjes mogelijk alle activiteiten onder één dak: in de zalen, de winkel, het auditorium en het café/restaurant. Facilitair manager Trudy van de Meerakker neemt u mee. Het programma van de rondleidingen is te vinden op de website van het Van Abbemuseum. Bezoekers kunnen zich inschrijven en tegen een kleine bijdrage (4,-) meedoen aan deze speciale rondleidingen.

Het pad van de conservator

Benieuwd naar alles wat een conservator doet in de voorbereiding en opbouw van een tentoonstelling? U krijgt informatie over de rol van de conservator, de kunstenaars en de kunstwerken in het volgende deel van Play Van Abbe. Rondleiding door Christiane Berndes, conservator Eigen Collectie Van Abbemuseum.

Omgaan met kunst

Ontdek wat er gebeurt met kunstwerken wanneer ze niet meer in de tentoonstelling te zien zijn. Welke behandeling hebben werken nodig? Welke nieuwe uitdaging brengt het behoud van hedendaagse kunst met zich mee? En hoe reizen kunstwerken de wereld rond? Hoe werkt een klimaatkist waarin kunstwerken worden vervoerd? Wie mag kunstwerken lenen en waarom? Rondleiding door Louis Baltussen, teamhoofd Behoud & Beheer en Bettine Verkuijlen, registrar.

Senior bibliothecaris Willem Smit vertelt de verhalen achter bijzondere boeken, affiches en documenten in het depot van de bibliotheek, waar meer dan 130.000 items zijn opgeslagen. Tevens gaat hij in op recent onderzoek waar de bibliotheek bij betrokken is en op specifieke activiteiten zoals het Living Archive project en bibliotheektentoonstellingen.

Het museum "Under Construction" Normaal gesproken zijn de museumzalen tijdens de open afbouw van een tentoonstelling gesloten voor het publiek. Tijdens de Wisseling is dit niet het geval. Bezoekers zien medewerkers van de technische dienst

aan het werk die onder aansturing van kunstenaars en conservatoren de kunstwerken een plaats geven. Naast deze live activiteiten op zaal geven korte filmpjes een beeld van eerdere installaties van kunstwerken. Ook zijn er fragmenten te zien waarin conservatoren en kunstenaars vertellen over de kunstwerken en projecten te zien zullen zijn in het vierde deel van Play Van Abbe, dat na de Wisseling op 26 februari geopend wordt. Om meer te weten te komen over de inrichting van de zalen, kunnen bezoekers de gratis dagelijkse rondleiding om 14.00 uur volgen.

Wisseling De Wisseling is een programma dat de brug vormt tussen de verschillende delen van Play Van Abbe, het 18 maanden durende programma dat sinds november 2009 centraal staat. Play Van Abbe bestaat in totaal uit vier delen met drie wisselingen (Wisseling I, II en III). De Wisseling is dé kans voor bezoeker om het museum van binnenuit te leren kennen. Wisseling is onlosmakelijk verbonden met het doel van Play Van Abbe om zoveel mogelijk mensen te betrekken in de discussie over de rol van het museum in de 21e eeuw.

De Wisseling verloopt kort en snel ­ mis het niet! Come and see the museum behind-the-scenes!
Backstage tours during Transition III

From 15th to 24th February at the Van Abbemuseum, artworks from Play Van Abbe Part 3 will be removed and replaced by works to be shown in the fourth and last part of Play Van Abbe. During this period, entitled Transition, visitors can get an inside view of all the action taking place during the development, installation and promotion of an exhibition. The Transition period offers six different behind-the-scenes tours in which Van Abbemuseum staff will share their knowledge and professional secrets, guiding visitors through the bustling activity in the 'museum kitchens` and offering a unique chance to find out more about their museum experience. More information on the tours can be found on www.vanabbemuseum.nl (advanced booking is necessary). Beside the organised tours, visitors to the museum are invited to experience the building in its transformation mode and observe the installation activities up close. Installation Techniques

Visit the museum workshops and the different installation halls to find out more about processes and techniques of installing art. Tour by Theo Wajon, Head of Technical Services.

All visitors are invited to join the special tours for a small fee (4,-). The programme of these tours can be found on the Van Abbemuseum website and advanced booking is necessary.

Hear the stories behind the special books, posters and documents in the museum library depot, where over 130.00 items are stored. What can these papers from the past tell us about our reality today? A tour by Willem Smit, Senior Librarian and Archivist.

Architecture and what's in it

Find out more about the unique architecture of the Van Abbemuseum building and its facilities. Discover hidden passages, who is allowed in where, and what the optimal end-uses of the building may be. A tour by Facility Manager Trudy van de Meerakker.

The museum "Under Construction" Usually, when exhibitions are under construction, the galleries are closed to the public ­ but this is not the case during Transition. Visitors will be invited to witness the live action of installing the artworks by technicians, artists and curators. Also in the halls, special information stations will feature short movies about previous installations as well as fragments of artworks and projects about to be installed for Part 4 of Play Van Abbe, opening on February 26. For more installation insights, visitors are also invited to join the free tour at 14:00 every day.

The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven is one of the first public museums for contemporary art to be established in Europe. The museum's collection of around 2700 works of art includes key works and archives by Lissitzky, Picasso, Kokoschka, Chagall, Beuys, McCarthy, Daniëls and Körmeling. Transition Transition is a programme that functions as a bridge between the different parts of Play Van Abbe, the 18month programme of the Van Abbemuseum, that started on November 2009. Play Van Abbe is made up of four parts with three Transition-periods between them (Transition I, II, III). Transition offers visitors the opportunity to experience the museum inside-out, presenting a broader look into what the museum is and how it operates. One of the key ambitions with Play Van Abbe is to include as many participants as possible, professional as well as nonprofessional, in the discussion on the role of the museum in the 21st. century.
