Bookies Running Scared of Lisbon Treaty No Vote

PR Newswire
DUBLIN, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Ireland's largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, have reported a surge of
betting in support of a NO vote in the forthcoming Lisbon Treaty Referendum.
This has resulted in the bookmaker slashing the odds on a NO vote from 5/1 to
3/1.
Recent opinion polls in Ireland show a significant swing towards a NO
vote and punters have wasted absolutely no time taking advantage of the odds
on offer.
Paddy Power spokesman Ken Robertson said "While a yes vote remains our
odds-on favourite, a no vote is actually our biggest loser. We've taken
several substantial bets on a No outcome including one bet of EUR10,000 at
odds of 5/1. We'll be paying out in excess of EUR100,000 should the No vote
get carried.
Paddy Power have also slashed the odds on what percentage the treaty gets
passed by if it manages to pull a yes vote majority. It's a very skimpy 2/1
(from 7/2) that it gets passed by a narrow margin of between 50% and 54%.
