BARCELONA, February 12 /PRNewswire/ --
- Pelephone to Support Advanced Broadband and Roaming Services Over
1XEVDO and UMTS Networks Simultaneously Using AAA Service Controller
Bridgewater Systems (TSX:BWC) announced today that Israeli mobile
operator Pelephone is deploying its AAA Service Controller as part of their
1xEV-DO and UMTS networks. This best of breed network access control
solution will allow Pelephone to deliver a range of IP applications across
a growing subscriber base and improve support for data roaming services.
The Bridgewater Systems(TM) AAA Service Controller, which will replace
Pelephone's existing AAA (authentication, authorization and accounting)
solution, allows the operator to control subscriber access to advanced and
differentiated services across its existing CDMA, 3G (1xEV-DO) networks,
and a new UMTS/HSDPA network planned for launch in 2008.
"We needed a proven access control infrastructure that provides
carrier-grade performance and scalability to support our future growth,"
said Motti Alegresi, wireless data network Manager, Pelephone Israel. "We
recognized the Bridgewater Systems AAA Service Controller as the most
scalable and robust solution of its kind, and one that is widely-deployed
and proven with our key roaming partners around the world."
"Effective, high performance network access control is key to
sustaining our subscriber's experience and supporting the exciting new data
services such as streaming video that we will be rolling out to this
expansion area," he added.
Pelephone offers a number of advanced mobile data services, including
BREW-based applications, Push-To-Talk (PTT), location-based services (LBS)
and streaming media applications such as mobile TV. It is also one of
Israel's largest mobile operators with over 500,000 customers accessing
advanced data services via its 3G network, which offers data transfer
speeds of up to 2.4 Mbps. These services are expected to be replicated over
the UMTS/HSDPA network alongside a host of new international roaming
features to serve the global UMTS community.
Pelephone selected the Bridgewater(R) AAA Service Controller as it
offers a future-proof, vendor- and network-neutral access control platform
that can support their evolving network requirements as they expand and
introduce new services. The solution is able to serve multiple access
networks simultaneously allowing Pelephone to leverage a common subscriber
management and access control solution across multiple access technologies.
Because the AAA Service Controller is widely deployed among Tier 1 service
providers around the globe, the Bridgewater solution will be able to
support Pelephone's data roaming requirements.
"We are delighted to support Pelephone in this exciting phase of their
network development," said Mike Betz, EMEA managing director of sales,
Bridgewater Systems. "In today's environment, visionary service providers
such as Pelephone require solutions that help them provide a first-class
subscriber experience regardless of the access technology."
