TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION and other information
Accommodation
Accommodation will not be booked by the conference organizers. The
participants are invited to make their reservations in one of the
hotels in the Leiden region; these hotels are listed on the LUCL
website: http://www.lucl.leidenuniv.nl , sub events conference
information, or http://www.hollandrijnland.nl/leiden (the citys
tourist information). We would strongly advise to book early. Not only
you will have first choice of hotels, but you avoid the risk that the
hotels are full. Leiden is expecting many tourists this summer because
of the celebration of Rembrandts 400^th birthday.
We can recommend the following hotels:
Outside the city centre:
Bastion Hotel Oegstgeest: parking facilities, frequent
public transport to the conference building and the city centre,
moderate prices (be aware not to book in the Voorschoten location, but
in Oegstgeest, which has better connections to the city center)
Holiday Inn: parking facilities, frequent public transport
to the conference building and the city centre, moderate prices
In the city centre (all hotels are within walking distance to the
conference building, 5-15 minutes):
Hotel Nieuw Minerva
Hotel Mayflower
Hotel De Doelen
and other hotels listed on the websites mentioned above.
There are only very few parking places close to these hotels, but it
is possible to use the municipal car parks (see the information
below).
Low budget accommodation is offered by bed and breakfast
accommodations or pensions.
Travel information
public transport
From Schiphol Airport there are frequent and direct trains to Leiden.
It takes only twenty minutes to the Leiden Centraal railway station.
There are also frequent trains from Amsterdam, the Hague, Utrecht and
other cities to Leiden.
On the LUCL website you will find a route description from the railway
station to the Lipsius Building in the Faculty of Arts complex. It
takes 15-20 minutes on foot.
by car
If you come by car, take the A4 or A 44 motorway between The Hague and
Amsterdam. You will find signs to the city centre, university
buildings, hotels, parking areas.
Parking in the historical city centre itself is very expensive, if
possible at all.
We advise you to follow the directions to the Haagweg car park, at the
edge of the centre of Leiden. The daily rates are moderate. From
there, free shuttle buses bring you to the Rapenburg, which is two
minutes from the Lipsius Building on foot.
Conference location
The conference will take place in the Lipsius Building (also called
Centraal Faciliteiten gebouw). It is part of a modern complex of
buildings in the heart of Leidens city centre which houses the Faculty
of Arts; it includes both the offices of INL (1170-1171) and LUCL
(1166); futhermore an extensive university library. This complex (also
called WSD-complex) is situated between the canals Rapenburg and
Witte Singel and is surrounded by many museums. A map of the complex
is available on the LUCL website: http://www.lucl.leidenuniv.nl events
conference information. The Lipsius building is number 1175.
The conference location and its surroundings offer plenty of
opportunities to have lunch.
