Alcan Sells Airfreight Container Business to Driessen Aerospace Group Netherlands
MONTREAL, Canada, June 2/PRNewswire/ --
Alcan Inc. (NYSE, TSX: AL) announced today that it has completed the sale of its airfreight container business (AFC) to Driessen Aerospace Group in the Netherlands, a manufacturer of containers, trolleys and related products for the aerospace market. Details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
'The airfreight container business is a small part of Alcan's operations at our facility in Singen, Germany and outside of our group's strategic product portfolio,' said Michel Jacques, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alcan Engineered Products. 'The combination of AFC's leading position in its market and Driessen's industry focus will provide a viable and sustainable future for this business.'
Currently, more than 2,100 employees work at Alcan's Engineered Products site in Singen, including 23 in the airfreight container business. Going forward, these employees will remain within Alcan, as the manufacturing of containers is progressively relocated to Driessen's facilities.
