Parlementsleden sturen brief naar president Bush


Bijgevoegd vind je een brief die op initiatief van Agalev afgelopen week verstuurd werd naar president Bush. Hierin vragen we duidelijk in het conflict met Irak verder de diplomatieke weg te bewandelen.

Op deze manier willen een vijftigtal Belgische parlementsleden vanuit de verschillende democratische partijen uiting geven aan de wens van 82% van de bevolking die absoluut gekant is tegen een oorlog en het standpunt van de regering ondersteunt. Agalev is blij dat ook in ons parlement de vredeswil aanwezig is. Multilateraal diplomatiek overleg is de weg die wij nu verder moeten bewandelen.

An Appeal Concerning a Peaceful Solution for Iraq

According to an estimation the attack to Iraq would lead to the loss of approximately 100 000 - 500 000 innocent civilian people's lives. We do not want to underestimate the possible disastrous influence of the weapons of mass destruction in the hands of people who do not care about international treaties prohibiting their use. We are aware of the human rights' violations under Saddam Hussein's regime and we do not accept them. However, we underline that a peaceful solution with respect to civilian people's lives is the key question in the crisis.

We appeal to you, Mr. President, that you let the UN inspectors continue their work in Iraq and that the administration of the United States of America will cooperate with the United Nations in order to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
