Onderzoek Borland: webservices doorbreken firewall
~ adoptie webservices verder dan gedacht ~
8 januari 2003 - Borland Software Corporation heeft de resultaten bekend gemaakt van een onderzoek gehouden onder Europese ontwikkelaars en IT-managers die deelnamen aan Borland's jaarlijkse BorCon Europe 2002 conferentie in Londen.
Het onderzoek toont aan dat veel Europese organisaties webservices oplossingen gebruiken om hun zakelijke applicaties en databases via het internet te verbinden met externe organisaties.
Van de ondervraagden ontwikkelt 57% actief webservices applicaties gebaseerd op het Microsoft® .NET of het Java® 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE®) platform. 47% maakt al gebruik van open standaarden om derden door de firewall heen toegang te verschaffen tot bedrijfsinformatie. Dit gegeven werd nog eens onderstreept door het feit dat 58% zei dat de belangrijkste doelstelling bij het webservices project van hun organisatie is om medewerkers, partners en klanten vanaf een andere lokatie toegang te kunnen bieden tot bedrijfsinformatie.
Het onderzoek bracht ook naar voren dat J2EE® het populairste webservices platform is; 38% van de ontwikkelaars gebruikt deze op Java®-gebaseerde omgeving. 29% van de ontwikkelaars maakt gebruik van het Microsoft .NET platform. Bij 15% van de organisaties wordt gebruik gemaakt van zowel .NET als J2EE.
"Op het moment heerst de perceptie dat het webservices, of deze nu gebaseerd zijn op het .NET of op het J2EE platform, nog niet gelukt is door de firewall heen te breken. De toepassing van webservices technologieën in Europa is echter al veel verder gevorderd dan tot nu toe werd aangenomen," zei Mika Alapiessa, regionaal directeur bij Borland.
"De belangrijkste doelstellingen bij deze webservices projecten waren onder andere de klantenservice verbeteren en de supply chain stroomlijnen. De resultaten van het onderzoek laten zien dat het gebruik van open standaarden hierbij een sleutelrol speelt. Dat is bemoedigend, omdat het onderstreept wat Borland al enige tijd zegt - namelijk dat open standaarden essentieel zullen zijn bij het maximaliseren van het enorme zakelijke potentieel van het internet," voegde Alapiessa hieraan toe.
Meer dan een kwart van de ondervraagden werkt voor bedrijven met meer dan 500 medewerkers en tweederde werkt in organisaties met meer dan 100 medewerkers.
