Borland kondigt C++ technologie voor 2.5G/3G aan

~ mobiele applicaties op het SymbianTM besturingssysteem ~

3 juni 2002 - Borland kondigde aan een nieuwe C++ technologie voor de ontwikkeling van mobiele applicaties te hebben ontwikkeld voor 2.5G en 3G mobiele telefoons en spraakgestuurde Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) die draaien op het SymbianTM besturingssysteem (SymbianTM OS). Dit ondersteunt innovatie op de groeiende wireless markt. De eerste release van deze nieuwe C++ technologie staat gepland voor de tweede helft van 2002.

Voortbouwend op de release van Borland® C++Builder® MobileSet 2.0 in januari 2001 breidt Borland met de aankondiging van de Borland C++ technologie haar ondersteuning van verbeterde ontwikkeling van mobiele applicaties uit. De Borland C++ oplossing zal ontwikkelaars in staat stellen om snel C++ applicaties te produceren die op het Symbian besturingssysteem draaien, een besturingssysteem voor geavanceerde, data-enabled mobiele telefoons. De oplossing zal eveneens de ontwikkeling van C++ applicaties voor het Nokia Series 60 platform ondersteunen, dat draait op het Symbian besturingssysteem.

"Wij verwelkomen de ondersteuning van Borland voor C++ en Java," zei Jouko Häyrynen, vice-president van Nokia s wereldwijde ontwikkelaarsprogramma, Forum Nokia. "De markt voor geavanceerde, data-enabled mobiele handsets groeit snel en Borland's C++ technologie voor mobiele apparatuur zal miljoenen ontwikkelaars in staat stellen om nieuwe applicaties op de markt te brengen en te profiteren van deze geweldige mogelijkheid."

"2002 zal een jaar worden met spannende ontwikkelingen op het gebied van mobiele apparatuur - ze zullen eindelijk krachtig genoeg worden om de interactieve multimedia-applicaties te draaien die gebruikers verwachten," zei Jessica Figueras, e-infrastructuur analist bij analysten en consultancy bureau Ovum. "Dit jaar zullen wereldwijd 165 miljoen apparaten verscheept worden die in staat zijn om dit soort applicaties te draaien. Maar dit heeft geen enkele betekenis als er geen tools zijn om deze applicaties te creëren."

"Wij zijn zeer verheugd samen te werken met Borland en zo in de behoeftes van onze licentiehouders te voorzien."

"Door Borland's JBuilder MobileSet uit te breiden met de C++ oplossing, zullen ontwikkelaars de vrijheid hebben om mobiele applicaties te bouwen met zowel C++ als Java."
