DUTCH-> Het BAREND MIDDELHOFF QUINTET bestaat sinds juni 2000 Deze top musici (verschillende nationaliteiten) hebben allen Parijs als basis. Hun muziek is transparant, melodieus en wordt ondersteund door een stevige ritmesectie. De composities, bieden veel ruimte voor improvisatie, en zijn speciaal voor deze formatie geschreven. Geïnspireerd op de diverse stijlen en componisten van de 20ste eeuw. De debuut CD 'CITY LINES' (Buzz Records ZZ 76016) verschijnt in januari 2002, en wordt op 21 januari ook bij Jazzclub Carnaval Du Jazz at MASSIMO's in Heerlen gepresenteerd! Barend Middelhoff maakte jarenlang internationaal furore met The Houdini's.
Zijn nieuwe super quintet bestaat uit:
1. BAREND MIDDELHOFF, (1965, Nederland). Hij maakte zeven jaar lang deel uit van 'The Houdini's'. In 1999 vertrok hij naar Parijs om zich daar enige tijd te vestigen. Naast 'The Houdini's' speelde hij o.a. met Dr Lonnie Smith, John Engels, Corry Van Binsbergen, The Amsterdam Jazz Quintet, Denise Jannah, Joe Magnarelli en John Betch.
2. OLIVIER KER OURIO, (1964, L'ile de la Réunion). Hij is een van de weinige jazzmusici die de chromatische mondharmonica bespeelt. Hij heeft zijn eigen, moderne stijl ontwikkeld, met een groot gevoel voor melodie en lyriek. De nieuwe garde, in navolging van onze 'peetvader'-nonkel Jean-Toors Thielemans? Hij was te gast als solist bij o.a. Michel Petrucciani, Phillippe Catherine en Aldo Romano.
3. DENNIS LELOUP (1962, Frankrijk). Dennis speelde in 'L'Orchestre National de Jazz' van 1986 tot 1988 en verving Bob Brookmeyer in het sextet van Michel Petrucciani in 1997 en 1998. Verder speelde hij met Walter Bishop, Shelly Manne, Dizzy Gillespie, Michel legrand, Kenny Wheeler, Steve Gadd, en vele anderen.
4. DIEGO IMBERT (1966, Frankrijk). Hij is sinds 1994 lid van ' L'Orchestre Régional de Jazz de Lorraine'. Hij maakt deel uit van het quintet van Birelli Lagrène en het trio van Sylvain Beuf. Ook maakte hij opnamens met o.a. Bob Mintzer, André Ceccarelli, Phillipe Catherine, Tony Lakatos, en Lew Soloff.
En 5. PIER PAOLO POZZI (1964, Italië). Pozzi heeft zich ontwikkeld tot een melodische, kleurrijke drummer. In '93 verliet hij zijn geboortestad Rome en vestigde zich in Parijs, waar hij o.a. speelde in het trio van Tommy Flannagan, met Michel Graillier en Paolo Fresu. Kortom, de 'crème de la crème' from Paris! Zeer warm aanbevolen dus.
ENGLISH-> Saxophone player Barend Middelhoff belongs to the genuine top
of tenor players of Dutch heritage. Since 1993 he was a member of The
Houdini's. Performed as a leader on the North Sea Jazz Festival for the
first time in 1992. Won the first price on the prestigious Middelsee
Jazz Concours. In 1995 he traveled to New York to record his debut album
"Soil". Studied there one year later with Jimmy Heath and George
Garzone. Recorded "The River", his second CD. Performed and recorded
with such great musicians like John Engels, Corry van Binsbergen, The
Amsterdam Jazz Ouintet, Denise Janah, The Fra Fra Big Band, the
Houdini's and many more. In 1999 he moved to Paris. And now he brings in
our club his 'All Star French Quintet'. (By the way, they will release
their first CD in January 2002, so also in our club). Formed in June
2000. The top of the Paris jazz scene!
Like OLIVIER KER OURIO. His style is respectful of the Chromatic
stylings of masters like Toots or Larry Adler but Olivier adds his own
twist with a definite exotic flavor to his jazz. DENNIS LELOUP played
the trombone in 'L'Orchestre National de Jazz'. Replaced Bob Brookmeyer
in the Michel Petrucciani sixtet. Played with Walter Bishop, Shelly
Manne, Dizzy Gillespie, Michel Legrand, Kenny Wheeler, Steve Gadd, and
many others. DIEGO IMBERT on double bass, played with 'L'Orchestre
Régional de Jazz de Lorraine'. Was part of Birelli Lagrène quintet and
the Sylvain Beuf trio. Recorded also with Bob Mintzer, André Ceccarelli,
Phillipe Catherine, Tony Lakatos, and Lew Soloff.
And the beautiful Italian drummer PIER PAOLO POZZI was in the Tommy
Flannagan trio, played with Michel Graillier and Paolo Fresu, and many,
many others.

FRENCH-> Le nouveau projet du saxophoniste hollandais Barend Middelhoff;
ses compositions spécialement écrites pour cet ensemble sont inspirées
par les musiques de Mingus, Bach, Ornette Coleman, Lennie Tristano,
Prokofiev, Stevie Wonder et Herbie Nichols.Un quintet particulier, une
rythmique d'exception, un harmonica brillant et un trombone rare - que
de bons ingrédients pour une soirée savoureusement éclectique. Le
"Barend Middelhoff 5tet" a été créé durant l'année 2000. Les musiciens
qui le constituent sont de nationalités diverses, mais ils ont tous
Paris comme base pour leurs activités musicales. Grâce à la combinaison
instrumentale, la musique acquiert un caractère intimiste en superposant
les dessins mélodiques soutenus par une solide rythmique. Les
compositions, spécialement écrites pour cette formation, trouvent leurs
inspirations dans des styles et chez divers compositeurs de ce siècle.
C'est avec grand plaisir que nous accueillerons pour la premier fois cet
admirable ensemble.
