Aankondiging conferentie

Diversity makes the Difference ­ European Foreign Policy and Culture Europese conferentie in het kader van het Duits EU-voorzitterschap Vrijdag 9 maart 2007, Vredespaleis, Den Haag, Perslunch 12.45 - 13.45 uur.

Op 9 maart as spreken tijdens de conferentie 'Diversity makes the Difference' onder meer Gijs de Vries (coördinator terrorismebestrijding), Ján Figel' (Europees commissaris voor onderwijs, opleiding, cultuur en meertaligheid), Sean Doyle (Directeur Generaal Buitenlandse Betrekkingen), David Green (Directeur Generaal British Council, voorzitter van EUNIC) en Wolfgang Petritsch (voormalig ambassadeur in Bosnië-Herzegovina).

In presentaties en panels discussiëren politici, beleidsmakers (zowel Europees als nationaal), vertegenwoordigers van nationale culturele instituten en anderen werkzaam in de culturele sector over de rol van Europa in de wereld en de rol die cultuur daarbij mogelijk kan spelen. De conferentie zal leiden tot aanbevelingen en praktische voorstellen voor politiek en het culturele veld in de lidstaten.

Voorafgaand aan de conferentie vindt op 8 maart bij de Duitse ambassadeur de presentatie plaats van twee recent verschenen studies over dit onderwerp. Dit betreft A Cultural Dimension to the EU's External Policies, from Policy Statements to Practice and Potential van Rod Fisher, Boekmanstudies en LabforCulture (2007) en A Cultural Component as an integral part of the EU's Foreign Policy? van Diane Dodd en Melle Lyklema, Boekmanstudies en Kathinka Dittrich-Van Weringh, LabforCulture/ ECF (2006).

Organisatie
'Diversity makes the Difference' wordt georganiseerd door de European Cultural Foundation, de Stichting Internationale Culturele Activiteiten/ SICA en het Goethe-Institut Amsterdam namens EUNIC Netherlands, het netwerk van buitenlandse culturele organisaties in Amsterdam.
