Borland introduceert C++-technologie voor Linux®

~ Borland® Kylix® 3 biedt Linux ontwikkelaars wereldwijd snelle C++ ontwikkeling ~

24 juli 2002 - Borland Software Corporation introduceert Borland® Kylix® 3, de eerste Rapid Application Development (RAD) oplossing voor C++ en Borland Delphi op het Linux besturingssysteem. Het is de eerste keer dat Linux-ontwikkelaars snel GUI-, database-, internet- en webservicesapplicaties in C++ kunnen ontwikkelen, de programmeertaal die voor het Linux systeem/platform de voorkeur geniet. Kylix 3 breidt RAD voor Linux uit naar de volgens IDC ruim twee miljoen C++-ontwikkelaars, door technologie te leveren die de adoptie van Linux in het bedrijfsleven zal bevorderen.

"Met Kylix 3 heeft Borland krachtige enterprise tools, die voldoen aan de industriële standaarden, naar de Linux ontwikkelgemeenschap gebracht. De toevoeging van C++-ondersteuning in Kylix, betekent dat iedere Linux-applicatie, van GUI- tot database- tot webservicesapplicaties, snel en voordelig ontwikkeld kunnen worden met de meest populaire Linux-programmeertaal," zei Jeff Bates, medeoprichter van Slashdot.org en directeur van OSDN Online.

Met Kylix 3 kunnen bedrijven op een betaalbare manier snel hoogwaardige Linux-applicaties bouwen met bestaande kennis van C++. Hierdoor kunnen ze binnen de krappe IT-budgetten blijven.

"Door gebruik te maken van voordelige Linux-servers, de meest gebruikte servers in back-endsystemen, en van de bestaande kennis van C++ broncode en C++-programmeerervaring, kunnen bedrijven zich aan de beperkingen van krappe budgetten houden en tegelijkertijd snel hoogwaardige applicaties leveren," aldus Rikki Kirzner, directeur Research van IDC. "Bedrijfsapplicaties worden steeds complexer en dat vraagt om hoogwaardige ontwikkeloplossingen om de klus op tijd en binnen het budget te klaren."

Volgens IDC blijft C/C++ de belangrijkste taal voor applicatieontwikkeling. Kylix 3 biedt het eerste two-way visuele ontwerp van C++ applicaties, waardoor C++ ontwikkelaars snel hoogwaardige GUI client-, database-, internet- en webservicesapplicaties voor het Linux besturingssysteem kunnen maken. Tot nu toe werden Linux-ontwikkelaars gedwongen niet-visueel geïntegreerde ontwikkelingsomgevingen te gebruiken, die meer geschikt zijn voor besturingssysteem- en device-driver-ontwikkeling.

"C++ is de ontwikkeltaal waar de meeste Linux-ontwikkelaars de voorkeur aan geven, maar tot nu toe vereiste het bouwen van hoogwaardige applicaties - met name voor GUI clients, databases en het internet - erg veel ontwikkeltijd. Met de op componenten gebaseerde ontwikkeling voor Linux in Kylix 3, kunnen C++-ontwikkelaars hun time-to-market versnellen," aldus Mika Alapiessa, regionaal directeur bij Borland. "We hebben niet alleen een krachtige visuele C++-ontwikkelomgeving voor Linux-ontwikkelaars gebouwd, maar omdat we Borland zijn, zijn we nog iets verder gegaan en hebben we de oplossing cross-platform en interoperabel gemaakt. Dit biedt bedrijven keuzevrijheid."

Kylix 3 verbetert de snelheid en kwaliteit van op componenten gebaseerde ontwikkeling en biedt ontwikkelaars de flexibiliteit om applicaties te bouwen in C++ of Borland Delphi voor het platform van hun keuze. Ontwikkelaars kunnen Kylix 3 met Borland C++Builder® of Delphi combineren om single-source, cross-platform Linux/Windows® applicaties te creëren. Daarnaast breidt Borland haar webservicesondersteuning uit door in Kylix 3 uitgebreide ondersteuning te bieden voor de ontwikkeling van webservices en te zorgen dat de oplossing voldoet aan de laatste webservicesstandaarden.

Borland Kylix 3 is verkrijgbaar in drie edities: Kylix 3 Enterprise, Kylix 3 Professional en Kylix 3 Open Edition. Voor nieuwe gebruikers is de Kylix 3 Enterprise editie verkrijgbaar voor 2229 Euro en de Kylix Professional editie voor 279 Euro. Speciale prijzen gelden voor bestaande gebruikers van Borland Kylix, C++Builder en Delphi.

Kylix 3 Enterprise en Professional zullen verkrijgbaar zijn via geautoriseerde resellers.
